That is marvelous. It just goes to show how a little careful editing and soundtrack accompaniment can skew a trailer pretty dramatically. For a more contemporary example, it sounds like the trailer for A History of Violence doesn't quite do the film's "shocking" content justice. A co-worker I know brought their 12 year old with them to see it, and she said that the rest of the audience was glaring at her as they left the theatre...

I feel ya. But to be honest, the MPAA rating system has been in place for a few decades now, and an "R" rating generally means adult fare, even if sweet hottie Aragorn is in the thing. The title alone seems somewhat indicative of less-than-kid-friendly, does it not? I mean if you called a film TAILCHASER'S SONG then cool, bring the kids, but A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE? I've seen some hilariously bad choices made by "adult guardians." The best ones were kids dragged to STARSHIP TROOPERS and FREDDY VS JASON. Those kids grew up to be cannibals I bet.

But truthfully, if I recall, the trailer for AHOV at least shows guns being brandished, disfiguring scars, the threat of violence towards a family, etc. It never claims to be anything other than 'adult.'

... Although I admit that even *I* was shocked by the violence. YAY CRONENBERG! That's why he is my homie.
